The Pocket Plan

I filled out the template for the customizable pocket plan. It didn’t take a huge amount of time (granted, I really need to compare it with others and make sure we’re all on board with it being a reality of the way it should be) – but time investment was pretty doable – especially seeing that the place I work already has a disaster plan, so I was able to retrofit much of the information into the outline).

In short, this is the information you want to think about before there is an emergency or disaster (who to call, communications, facilities, priorities, what to do, etc.) – let’s just say it’s a way to get your feet wet.

The plan is available for download (and to fill out) by the Council of State Archivists. The plan [formally called the Pocket Response Plan (PReP)™] can be modified for your institution and staff member. While its not intended to be a comprehensive emergency or disaster plan, it’s a handy, mobile way to stay in touch. It is also a checklist and reminder of important tasks to be taken in the crucial moments after an emergency.

In short - templates, customizable, doable – and you can order the protective Tyvek sleeve so it can resist the elements.

And yup – it really does fit in your pocket.
