a tale of two caps

An alarming amount of damage is done to collections during the pulling and re-shelving of items. The British Library has a wonderful video series which shows the best ways to pull books off the shelves. In short - books on either side of the book you want should be pushed in and the one you want pulled out by the spine. Books should not be pulled off the shelves by the headcap (or the tailcap for that matter). Poor handling and paging of materials causes bad damage (NB: we've all pulled them improperly at one point or another...).

These unfortunate books have seen their share of damage (on both ends).
